লোকগবেষক হামিদুর রহমান পাঠাগার ও সাংস্কৃতিক কেন্দ্র-এর জন্ম আশির দশকে। ১৯৮০ সালে পারিবারিক উদ্যোগে প্রতিষ্ঠিত হয় এই পাঠাগার। জন্মলগ্ন থেকেই এই পাঠাগার থেকে গ্রামের মানুষ বই নিয়ে পড়ার সুযোগ পাচ্ছে। এই পাঠাগার-এর একটি অন্যতম লক্ষ্য হলো বড়দের পাশাপাশি শিশু-কিশোরদেরকেও বই পাঠে উৎসাহী করে তোলা। সৃজনশীল কাজে উদ্বুদ্ধ করা। পাঠাগারটি নেত্রকোনা জেলার আটপাড়া থানাধীন শুনই গ্রামে অবস্হিত। বর্তমান সভাপতির দায়িত্বে আছেন জনাব হামিদুর রহমান।

“Folklorist Hamidur Rahman Library and Cultural Center” has been established in a remote village in Netrokona district in Bangladesh. We received the Government registration (ZSG/NETRO-31) from the National Book Centre, Ministry of Culture Bangladesh. We started our activities in newly constructed building from January 2022. The main objective of this library is to inculcate creative reading habits in the children along with the textbooks. We carry out a number of regular activities so that children can become involved in supplementary reading activities and improve their reading skills. Apart from this, the library regularly organizes various day celebrations and cultural programs, joyful cultural and play events. Every month 250-300 children come here to read books and 150-200 children take books home.
“Folklorist Hamidur Rahman Library and Cultural Centre” is a rural library established in 1980. This library is situated in Netrakona district under the Atpara Upazila, Bangladesh. Folklorist Hamidur Rahman Library & Cultural Centre has established to create enabling environment of reading habit. From beginning, the people of the village have been getting the opportunity to read books from this library. Most of the common people in the village do not buy books by spending money as a hobby. But if you can give a chance to read books, he will read books. One of the aims of this library is to encourage children as well as adults to read books. Inspire creative work.
এক প্রখ্যাত নরওয়েজিয়ান লেখক এবং নরওয়েজিয়ান রিসার্চ সেন্টার ফর কম্পিউটার অ্যান্ড লয়ের অধ্যাপক জন বিংকে প্রশ্ন করা হলো, ‘আমাদের চারদিকে এত তথ্য পাওয়া যায়, তাহলে কেন আমাদের গ্রন্থাগার প্রয়োজন?’ উত্তরে তিনি বলেছিলেন, ‘যখন অন্য কোথাও এত তথ্য পাওয়া যায়, তখন আমাদের কেন গ্রন্থাগার দরকার তা জিজ্ঞাসা করা, এত এত রাস্তা থাকতে রাস্তার ম্যাপ কেন দরকার, তা জিজ্ঞাসা করার মতোই যুক্তিসঙ্গত।’ সারা জে মাস—অন্য আরেকজন আমেরিকান লেখক, গ্রন্থাগার সম্পর্কে বলেছিলেন, গ্রন্থাগার এত সব ধারণার কেন্দ্র যে সম্ভবত সব অস্ত্রের মধ্যে সবচেয়ে বিপজ্জনক ও শক্তিশালী। গ্রন্থাগারিক এবং মার্কিন যুক্তরাষ্ট্রের ৪৩তম প্রেসিডেন্ট জর্জ ডব্লিউ বুশের স্ত্রী লরা বুশ বলেছেন, ‘আমি আমার ওয়ালেটে সবচেয়ে মূল্যবান যে জিনিস খুঁজে পাই, তা হলো আমার গ্রন্থাগারের সদস্য কার্ড।’
আমেরিকান বিখ্যাত লেখক সিডনি শেলডন বলেছেন, ‘গ্রন্থাগার সেই শক্তি সঞ্চয় করে, যা আমাদের কল্পনাশক্তিকে জ্বালানি দেয়। গ্রন্থাগার বিশ্বের কাছে আমাদের জানালা খুলে দেয়, নিত্যনতুন অন্বেষণে অনুপ্রাণিত করে এবং আমাদের জীবনযাত্রার মান উন্নত করতে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ অবদান রাখে।’
